Fishes - is a joint project of Cecylia Malik and Piotr Dziurdzia. It is a series of sculptures of objects dedicated to Vistula’s migratory fish such as salmon, sea trout, zarte, sturgeon, or barbels with which the rivers once were swarmed, but because of dams and bad water management they in the majority became extinct. Piotr Dziurdzia constructed from plywood the first boat on which I streamed down Cracow’s rivers during 6 Rivers project. The Project 6 Rivers started other projects and actions related to rivers, but also it started Cracow’s tradition of recurrent Aquatic Critical Mass. The Swimming Fishes are sculptures and floating constructions designed collectively, then built by Piotr Dziurdzia and painted by Cecylia Malik. Fishes have their premieres during alternate Aquatic Critical Mass. Floating on them is a performance. Documentation of the fish – sculptures is an annual challenge and it arises during the camera recorded performance. Names and knowledge about fish Cecylia Malik consults with Paweł Augustyniak Halny, with whom they collectively act upon Save rivers Coalition.
